Governor Kathleen Blanco has established the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation.

Displaced families: Who should I call to donate to displaced families? A number of organizations are collecting donations for Hurricane Katrina victims:

  • Donations For Seniors: LA Katrina Senior Relief c/o Capital Area Agency on Aging, P. O. Box 66038, Baton Rouge, LA 70896-6038. Donations are tax deductible
  • Families Helping Families Resource Centers for families with special needs
  • Find Family National Call Center Official U.S. government call center is the nationwide collection point and clearinghouse for information on people who may have perished during the hurricane. Call center operated 24 x 7. Call: 1-866-326-9393
  • The Red Cross is collecting monetary donations. Call 1-800-HELP NOW
  • The Salvation Army will accept donations of household goods or money. Call 1- 800-SAL ARMY
  • The United Way is coordinating volunteers through their help line, 211, or 1-800- 749-COPE for cell phone users.

Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network (LATAN) is accepting donations of funds and/or assistive technology devices, wheel chairs, walkers, canes, hospital beds, potty chairs, shower chairs, lifts

Medical:

Family-to-Family.org A not-for-profit community based hunger relief program for profoundly poor and hungry families. Connects sponsor families with "adopted" families

National Trust for Historic Preservation has established the National Trust Hurricane Recovery Fund for donations earmarked for the restoration of historic properties in areas hit by Katrina
